“There is only one thing that outweighs every other concern. One thing that will make you give up on everything you thought you knew. Every instinct. Every rational calculation. Love.”

Aaron had just gotten off the phone with Securian to accept his job offer when he walked into the Wartburg Chapel. He excitingly announced his new job to a group of friends, one of which was Amanda who high-fived and congratulated him. After a conversation about the stress of finding a job after college and what a relief it was to find something he was excited about, they went their separate ways. Later that day Aaron messaged Amanda on Facebook thanking her again for the congrats and assuring her she’d find a job soon. Shortly thereafter, Aaron gave Amanda his phone number and the rest is history.
We spent a lot of time getting to know each other by driving around the Iowa countryside talking about anything and everything. Our first official date was to see the movie ‘Divergent’ in Cedar Falls.
Late Wednesday night, after watching probably hours of Boy Meets World, Aaron asked Amanda if she wanted (in true Boy Meets World fashion) to go steady. From then on, our relationship has been full of adventure. From Aaron’s month long choir tour around Europe, graduating from Wartburg, to Amanda’s first teaching job in Iowa, Aaron’s first job in Downtown St. Paul, surviving long distance, both of us getting new jobs in Eagan, MN and new apartments south of St. Paul, family vacations, health scares, an abundance of weddings attended, and everything in between, our friendship and love for each other has grown more than we ever expected.
We met up with our friends at their apartment in Downtown Minneapolis then all walked over to Key’s Cafe together for lunch. After lunch, we went into the Foshay building to get tickets to the museum on the 30th floor. Turns out the museum computers were broken so we got to go up for free! We looked around the museum for awhile, then went up the stairs to the observation deck. Aaron stuck by the wall (due to a crippling fear of heights) while Amanda took a lap around the building. When Amanda got back to him, he asked our friend to take our picture. After she snapped a few, Aaron asked her to take just one more, pulled the ring box out of his coat pocket, got down on his knee, and asked Amanda to marry him. She, of course, said yes!
